Summer Postmortem

My last Postmortem post was back in May, so I’ve got some catching up to do, but instead of panicking about all the shit I haven’t done or talked about, I’m going to attempt to take things one at a time and lay out where I’m at and where I want to be by the end of September.

How’d  I Do?

1.) In band-related goals, I wanted to focus on Kickstarter prep in May. Good news is, I actually got all this done, just in June. May, I ended up focusing more on our CD release party. But we did launch the Kickstarter in June and we made our goal!

2.) For my new project, I procured research materials and even started to read them and take notes, but then my depression manifested in a complete inability to read, so I’ve fallen behind on that front (read more about that here). But the good news is that I have finished the first third of the new project. I’ve also sent my first five query letters for my completed project and I’ve gotten halfway through one last quick line edit of that project.

3.) I still want to do the YouTube Channel. In fact, I even recorded the first episode, but while I was editing it, I thought it was too long and boring, but I think I’ve come up with a plan to make the videos less boring (still long, though), now I just need to implement that plan.

4.) I’ve probably been most successful with my banjo-playing goal. I went to Banjo Camp North in May and had a great time. When I got home, I found a local banjo teacher and have been attending lessons. Now I just need to establish a focused practice routine so I play every day because playing banjo is frickin’ fun and I really like it.

Be Gentle, September

As evidenced by my last post, I’m in a bit of a fragile state mental health wise. That said, I’m going to try to set gentle goals for September that don’t pile on too much pressure.

1.) The Band! I need to finish sending out the Kickstarter rewards. I fell behind on these due to the band’s busy schedule and then getting sick, but I really need to get it done. This will be the top priority. Other than that, I’ll be working with the band on prepping for our next recording session, which will start at the end of September.

2.) Writing! I want to finish reading the first research book I got for my New Project. I’m almost done with it and I’m actually enjoying it, so hopefully, this is achievable. Then, I’m going to set the New Project aside for a couple months so I can focus on additional querying and get ready to revise the project I finished a draft of while I was in Australia.

3.) YouTube. I’d like to do a test of my new format idea. If it works I’ll post it and go from there. If it doesn’t, I may put my YouTube goals aside for a little bit to focus on other projects.

4.) Banjo. My banjo teacher challenged me to practice for 21 days in a row. I’ve been sick this week, so I’m already behind, but starting today, I’m going to work on sticking to the challenge. I’ll try to blog about my progress there.

5.) Personal things! I’ve got some pretty big personal developments in the works, that I can’t really share publically yet, but I’d like to work on those before I go back to Australia in November. So they go on the list, even though I can’t tell you what they are yet, only that they involve designing, planning, and research (is that vague enough for you). For those of you who know what I’m talking about, I’d like to request a cone of silence. Thanks.

Anyway, thanks for reading and for putting up with me being such a flaky blogger (and by flaky, I mean riddled with anxiety, depression, maybe ADD, and general overwhelmedness).

Seriously, though, you guys are awesome and I love you.
