IBMA 2015 – Day One

My mind is pleasantly numb. Not quite on overload, but getting there. The past two days, I’ve been attending the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) World of Bluegrass Business Conference in Raleigh, NC.  I’ve sat through seminars on crowd source funding, crafting a good music video, and publicizing your band. I’ve been to an awards luncheon. I’ve meeted and greeted (met and gret?) musicians, promoters, DJs, booking agents, songwriters, and more. I’ve watched some amazing showcase band performances.

They have it set up so that there are a bunch of bands playing at various theaters and night clubs all over the city every night. They call it the Bluegrass Ramble and it allows event promoters a chance to see bands in a performance environment and to see how audiences react to them. Now, my band is not participating in this. We’re not here to play in any official capacity, although I’m sure we’ll find a little nook to play in at some point. This is our first time at IBMA. We’re simply testing the waters, checking it out.  That’s not to say we’re not participating. We’ve handed our CD out to DJs and booking agents, we’ve gotten demos from songwriters. After the seminar on music videos I started story-boarding a music video in my head for one of the songs we’ll be recording on our next album. I feel like we’ve had a fairly limited bluegrass circle up until now and now we’re opening ourselves up to an even larger community.

I’ll definitely write more, but now I think I need a nap, but don’t tell anyone, okay, cuz another thing IBMA stands for is “I’ve Been Mostly Awake”.

Thank you for Reading.
