Day One

Emily and her muse, Jack.
Emily and her muse, Jack.

Hello Everyone (and by everyone I mean those few kindly facebook friends of mine who have actually followed the link to this blog out of pity, or loyalty, or friendship), thank you for reading. My name (in case you don’t actually know me personally and you missed it), is Emily Randolph-Epstein. I’m a writer, poet, musician, and dog person.

When I was eleven years old, I declared to my parents that I was going to be a fantasy novelist. I can’t remember what my parents said about that. Probably something like, “that’s nice dear.” Well, ten years later I still want to be a fantasy novelist, preferably a published and moderately successful fantasy novelist who can afford to move out of her parent’s house and feed herself and her dog on her own income. Being able to feed my dog is a must. He goes everywhere with me. He sits in my lap when I’m writing. He follows me into the bathroom when I shower and lies on the bath mat until I’m done. He gets mad at me when I go on vacation without him. I’ll probably mention him at least once every time I post. His name is Jack, by the way – Jonathon Preserved Randolph-Epstein, to be precise. He’s a four-year-old double doodle. For those of you who don’t know a double doodle is a cross between and golden doodle (Golden Retriever and Poodle) and a labradoodle (Labrador Retriever and Poodle). Jack’s about as doodley as they come.

Now, to those of you who are now thinking “Oh, God, not another blog where a crazy dog lady posts non-stop about her dog,” be not afraid, while Jack will play a prominent role in the action of many of my posts, I do not intend for him to be the star. This blog will function more like a public journal, where I’ll share my thoughts on life, the world, music, books, and well…life probably covered it. There will also be pieces of poetry, essays, and short stories. I  plan to post a serialized story that I’ll try to update every week. I’ll stress “try” because beyond being a fantasy novelist I also work, play upright bass in a band, have errands to run, dogs to walk, and hopefully a social life to conduct somewhere in that mess. So, bear with me while I figure things out and hopefully, I’ll give you a fun little blog to add a breath of fresh air to your hectic internet schedule.

Thank you for Reading

  1. This should probably be titled “Hello World” or something… How often will you update this?

    1. I’m going to try and update it at least twice a week, hopefully I can get updates up to nearly every day, but I’ll have to see how it works out with my work and regular writing schedule.
