Bloody Romantic

There are times when sentences just sort of pop into my head and I run with them and suddenly a whole little scene is going through my mind and occasionally I like these scenes so much that I’ll write them down and they end up somewhere in my book. This is not one of those scenes. It’s too cheesy to be taken seriously, but I like it and since it came to me while I was in close proximity to a computer, I’m going to share it with all of you. I hope you’ll forgive me.

He saw her from across a crowded battlefield. Her face was streaked with blood and her mouth was set in a vicious snarl as she plunged her ax into her enemy’s head. His heart skipped a beat…and then a few more as he narrowly avoided getting stabbed through the neck with a spear.

Wherever the tide of the battle drew him, his eyes inevitably fixed on her. She was a goddess of fury and bloodshed. The sun glinted off her armor and her ax. He thought she was battle incarnate.

I’m going to get myself killed, he thought as he watched her pull a man from his horse. It’s worth it, to have seen such vicious beauty.

And there you have it folks: my brain on a Saturday morning. Hope I’ve given you a bit of a laugh and if not, hope I haven’t made you cringe too much.

In other news, I watched Snowpiercer last night. Absolutely brilliant movie. It expertly toed the line between gritty realism, grim dystopia, and absurdism and featured an international cast. Wonderful performances by Tilda Swinton,  Chris Evans and Jamie Bell. Fabulous cinemetography, set design, and costuming. See it. There may be some moments where those of you who are more sensitive to violence will have to hide behind pillows, but it’s worth it.

Thank you for reading.
